With what I've learned so far, I completely agree. Another saying that really simplifies things and makes sense to me: Mental illness, or any other explanations for harmful behavior, are just that--explanations. It's harmful to use them as an excuse.
I haven't had nearly as much experience with physically violent behaviors; I've just seen myself splitting multiple times (and possibly having delusions), leading me to think extremely differently and come up with serious violent plans. Luckily, I could never think straight enough while in an episode to follow through with anything. Nothing has stopped me from being vocally abusive, though, but I've been getting better at catching myself when I'm no longer in an episode and apologizing. Also working on myself and trying not to get too close to anyone else right now. (Hopefully none of this was a repeat.)
Anyway, thank you for this comment! It really helps clarify things and is validating to hear others having similar thoughts.
